WE BOUGHT A FARMHOUSE
So...we've been quiet on here since our last big announcement and well, this one is just as big.
I guess I should start from the beginning. At the beginning of September, during my weekly hunt on Viewpoint, I found out that a farmhouse Rob and I have been inlove with for years was for sale. It was 3-4 bedroom, 3.5 bath and almost 2 x the square ft of our current house and stood tall on an acre of land that was being subdivided from 32 acres of farmland. AND it was only 2 mins up the road. It needed a lot of updating visually but the bones had been extremely well-kept since 1971 when the previous owners purchased it and completely renovated it. We decided that if we didn't at least go look at it we would regret it forever.
A few days later we took a tour of the space and we were in awe of all of the upgrades to the main things you worry about when purchasing a home, like the furnace, structure, wiring and plumbing etc. We had this overwhelming gut feeling. The last time we had this feeling was when we had walked through our current home before we even knew we'd be able to purchase a home. This home was so familiar to us so we decided to put in an offer that could've easily been passed up. With it, we included a note to the seller sharing our feelings about the home and how we are a family who will love it just as much as it was obvious that her family did. She said yes! And although we knew someone else was probably going to be putting in an offer more than what we had, she accepted ours.
That's when the panic started. We essentially just bought a second home without selling our first. We know in our gut that this was the right move and that our home won't be on the market for long. But man oh man are we panicking as we are about to close on the new house.
We have so many plans for this new house, they obviously include renovating the kitchen and moving it to the backside of the house, turning the den off the primary suite into its own standalone fourth bedroom, and bringing back all of the character that this 143 year old farmhouse is currently missing.
This isn't going to be a quick flip. We know exactly what our style is and where we wanna go with the space. But we are going to take it slow. This time instead of showcasing just the pretty picture of the after, we want to take you through the ride with all the nitty-gritty details of mess ups, hurtles and costs.
