Whats In My Hospital Bag and a Pampers Giveaway

What to pack for the Hospital when your having a babyPacking your bag for the hospital has to be one of the most stressful tasks for preparing for the baby. At 30 weeks, I have started to finalize and choose what I am needing to bring. Why do you ask is it so stressful? because you really have no idea how long you are going to be there. I have never been one for birth plans as I see them as a set up for disappointment. After having Aubrey, I know that nothing ever will go the way you want it. Packing for the hospital, you always have to plan for the worst. Because we live almost an hour from the hospital, I need to make sure I have everything I need because it isn't just a quick run home for something. A big key to this is packing a few bag. Yes I know, how diva of me. But, in all honesty, that will be the only way that you will stay organized in such small quarters. Having 3 bags packed, will save you the stress of the unknown and you will know where to find everything.Below, I have laid out what bags you should bring, and what I have experienced that you will need in each. A fourth bag is also a must for your Husband, partner, or friend who will be with you, but that should be left to them.Bag One, The Baby's Bag:This bag should be full of all the things that you will need for those first 24-48 hours with baby. Remember to pack extras because poop happens.

  • Soother (I recommend this one or this one)
  • Lots of Swaddle Blankets. Hospitals are cold so these will be useful to keep baby warm. Plus they are great for breastfeeding covers, etc.
  • 2 sleepers of each size in newborn and 0-3 months. Rob and I have big babies, but you should always be prepared for a tiny sweetheart so always pack for 2 sizes
  • 4 onsies. I say this because these are the most versatile and that way you just have to layer them with a swaddle on top while your in the hospital room. This also makes for a fast diaper change.
  • DIAPERS AND WIPES. Our hospital has stopped supplying these so you need to remember to bring your own. This way, you also get to choose what ones you want your baby to wear. After trying them all, Pampers Swaddlers are hands down the best for keeping your baby comfortable and dry. We also use their sensitive wipes for our baby's precious bum. Scroll to the bottom of this post for an awesome Pampers giveaway!
  • Socks and mittens. Those newborn toes always seem to be chilly, so make sure you pack a few pairs of socks to protect them. Mittens are also great as they get used to their hands and nails outside the womb

Bag Two, Your Day Bag:This bag is for best case scenario labor. Your in and out in 48 hours and just need the necessities.

  • Pads. The biggest, most absorbent you can get. some may even opt for Depends be cause unfortunately, you are going to bleed a lot.
  • 4 pairs of Full bum cotton underwear. Get ones that your OK with throwing out. These will be the only things comfortable to put on with the pads after birth
  • Breast Pads. I loved Lansinoh with Aubrey. If you haven't started already, you will soon realize that breast milk has a mind of its own so you might as well be prepared.
  • 2 Nursing bras. I recommend the sleeper ones for the hospital.
  • 2-3 nice sets of PJs or lounge wear that are breast feeding friendly. This will allow you to feel a bit more confident if people decide to stop in.
  • A toiletries bag. This should be stocked with everything you need to make you feel like a real person again. I mean shower items, hair items and makeup. You may be exhausted, but that shower after labor sure does wonders for your confidence in taking care of baby.
  • A book, or Device to play movies. I was in labor with Aubrey for 27 hours. It felt like an eternity, but thanks to Rob downloading the Game of thrones season onto his laptop, I hung out in the bath easing my contractions, he sat on the toilet, we watched, and it didn't seem so horrible.
  • Nipple cream. Sometimes the baby doesn't know how to latch. Make sure your prepared.
  • A sweater or Housecoat. Hospitals are always cold
  • Slippers. Buy a cheap pair, just incase they need to be chucked after. Trust me, they will be your best friend for all that walking you might have to do.

Bag Three. The emergency Bag:This bag you will keep in the car. Make sure you stock it with extras of everything listed above for you AND baby. If you have any complications in the birth, you may need to stay for a long period of time so its better to prepare. You don't have to be fancy with the things in this bag and they are just emergency items. Now onto the Giveaway!Because I believe so much in the Pampers brand for my children, I wanted to bring an awesome giveaway for you Moms on this Mothers Day weekend.
