Our Powder Room Reveal - BEHRⓇ Color Trends 2021 Palette
Last week, we celebrated 2 years in our home. Those two years flew by and were packed full of big moments like pregnancy, welcoming Emmitt to the family and renovations...LOTS AND LOTS OF RENOS.
We prioritized our renovations by use and budget, getting some of the bigger, most-used spaces worked on first, like the kitchen, living rooms, and bedrooms. But, we couldn't push doing our powder room any longer. So, 2 weeks ago we started taking action and finally made a weirdly laid out powder room feel more like something you would find in a spa.
Over the last few years, we had water damage to the back portion of our home. When we purchased this house, we knew it needed a new roof, but during the process of getting one, we also found out that our chimney connected to our back family room fireplace was totally disintegrating. This caused so many leaks including a large one in our powder room which caused a lot of damage to the ceiling at walls. This in turn sped up the decision to renovate the entire space NOW on a budget, instead of waiting longer.
The big word surrounding this was budget. With everything that has taken a toll since March, we didn't have the budget to go big on this renovation. Instead we turned to one of the least expensive things you can do to totally transform a space. Paint it.
We went with a hue from the BEHR Color Trends 2021 Palette and wanted to go bold for us, but with a color that still matched the palette and style of our home. We decided on Barnwood Gray PPU24-07, a rooted and relaxed gray, and to go fully monochrome, painting the walls, trim, wainscoting and even the ceiling with the color. It was dark enough to take this bland space and really make it dramatic, comforting and modern. We chose to paint with BEHR ULTRA™ SCUFF DEFENSE™ Interior Paint, which provides a flat and durable finish.
Next, we ripped out the old inexpensive vanity and awkwardly placed mirror and built a floating vanity that took up more space and the ability to have the sink away from the toilet. This makes the layout so much better for washing hands, especially for our kids—which multiple times a day. With a 6’6” husband, his knees had hit the old vanity. This layout, with the vanity essentially being open underneath, totally eliminates that problem.
We wanted to add a pop of color to the space with the monotone gray, plus...kids love color. So, we grabbed a can of Voyage PPU13-07, a soothing blue also from the new palette, and painted the kids’ stool, giving a perfect cheer to the space.
The final paint project for the powder room was thrifting some pretty ceramic vases and spray painting them with BEHRⓇ Chalk Decorative Aerosol Paint in Classic Noir and Pale Moon. When the paint was still a bit tacky on the third coat, I rubbed dirt horizontally all over the vase to really give it an antique vibe.
I'm actually so impressed with how this space turned out. It looks so custom and perfect. In total we spent around $1,000 on the total reno which included plumbing, wood, new faucet and vessel sink, paint and stains, and accessories like the towel bar and toilet paper holder.
What do you think of the colors from the BEHR Color Trends 2021 Palette? Would you go bold like this?
