I GOT BOTOX: My Experience

Becoming a parent at a younger age in todays standard (26) has so many positives to it. But, one thing that I found was that with each pregnancy, and each sleepless newborn year, I seemed to age faster and faster. Now at the age of 33 and a year into being a mom of 3, I'm finally able to sleep through the night, but my face looked anything but rested.

You may have been following me after having Poppy, where I joked many times on whether I should get botox or bangs. My forehead was my trouble spot. It's all I could see in the mirror. The deep crease between my brows and slowly deepening lines my forehead from doing too many stink eyes to my kids weighed on my confidence. Certain make ups creased in those trouble spots and I ended up having to wear make up suited for aging skin (45+ yr/olds) for the majority of the time as it was the only kind that would lay properly on my face. I had enough and went with bangs (The Bangs Debate) because it was cheaper. BAD MISTAKE!

before vs. after

Now, I'm not that type of person who is all about self-care. I only go to the salon for a cut every 4-6 months, I never spoil myself with selfcare (any spa service from nails to massages), so I really spend nothing on myself besides refilling my make up and skincare when it runs out. I am at a time in my life where I wanted to do something for me. Those wrinkles were just getting deeper and my confidence when I looked in the mirror was dwindling. So, I took the leap, and with Rob doing it with me, we booked in to get botox together.

After Rob was hired to shoot head shots for the Bedford skin clinic, we started to learn a lot more about their clinic and what they do. We decided that they were the best place for us to make the leap and get it done. They do so many different types of clinical skin care and it felt good to go to a place where there was a Doctor and Nurse injecting you.

Dr Elaine and Nurse Lyndsey both have been in the medical field for years and are very passionate about the beauty industry and taking care of your skin. Moving into this medical position was very natural for the both of them.

After having an online video consultation with Dr. Elaine, we came up with a plan for how to combat our biggest trouble areas. We ended up both getting injections in our foreheads, our number 11's (between the eyebrows), our crows feet and I also got my bunny lines done. Right away I felt a heaviness in my forehead as if a hat was too tight and putting pressure on it. It wasn't painful but it was a weird sensation. Rob on the other hand who used a different product, didn't get this heavy feeling until a few days later. Depending on the products that they use, you can start to see results within 2 to 3 days or up to two weeks for the full affect.

before vs. after

After 2 weeks went by, we booked in for a check up to make sure everything looked good and there were no issues. This is another reason why we went with their clinic. They are very thorough and they run their business where they under inject you the first time to make sure you like the results before they add more. For me, one eyebrow didn't take as much as the other. It ended up in being what they called "Spock brow" my muscles were stronger and needed a bit of an extra dose to even out my brow line. This was done during the check up.

Now, with our smoother looking skin, we don't have to have any injections to keep it up for another 3 to 5 months depending on how fast our bodies metabolize the neuromodulators (the true term for Botox). Due to the fact that Rob was quite strong in his forehead, he will probably be closer to the three month mark where I will probably be able to go at least 4 months before my next botox appointment. With any type of clinical skin care, there are many risks and contraindications. I know I've had so many of you asking questions over Instagram as I documented this entire journey on my stories but I think the best place to turn is by booking in a consultation which is free and discuss everything with Dr. Elaine and Lyndsey.

Another big question was in terms of cost. At The Bedford Skin Clinic, instead of charging you per unit, they charge by the area, which in turn ends up costing you less. The more areas you get done, the less per unit it will cost.

They also have an amazing multi level VIP program that breaks your fees down into a monthly payment plan where you pay from $60 a month to $265 a month. That gives you a certain amount of units per year, a discount on additional units, as well as products and services, and complimentary Facials which are valued at $125 each. It makes getting something like this so much more affordable and able to be budgeted for.

We are so happy with our results as you can see above. I know that this will not be the last time that I get Botox. It has added so much confidence in myself. When I look in the mirror I no longer focus on all of the lines and find myself not reaching for make up every single day like I had in the past. I am more comfortable with the skin I am in and I am excited to try out some other services that the Bedford Skin Clinic offers this Fall.
