A year in the life of a raised garden bed. Last A year in the life of a raised garden bed.

Last year in April, we received these amazing @sproutboxgarden L shaped garden boxes. We wanted them to flank our fire pit area and be the front yard to our future out building/coop.

They were supposed to be for my Cut flower beds, but with all the drama of our inground garden last year, we ended up planting our veggies in these, and we had almost too much vegetables for our family of five.

But now, with our inground, large veggie garden, finally taking shape, our outbuilding about to start being built again, and the warm weather almost here, these will be the home for our herb and Cut flower garden. Picture peonies, ranunculus’s and all of the Dahlia.

With the full moon hitting Nova Scotia this following week, it is finally time to start slowly planting those harder plants outside. I cannot wait.
It’s spring, but spring brings all those yucky s It’s spring, but spring brings all those yucky spring viruses and bugs into the house. #ad We didn’t escape them so come with me as I disinfect the entire house and reset it for the week after fighting a stomach bug.

One thing we always have on hand is our @clorox lineup of disinfecting products to not only clean but kill 99.9% of viruses and bacteria, when used as directed. Between their spray, wipes, and toilet cleaner this house has been deep, cleaned and disinfected from top to bottom. Now let’s get to the beautiful spring weather and fresh air.
The difference in this space over the last two yea The difference in this space over the last two years is so crazy. And the thing that made the biggest difference is getting new windows.

Don’t get me wrong, original windows in Century Homes are legit and amazing, but these windows we are slowly replacing were put in in the 90s and not made for a Canadian climate. Anything that could go wrong since purchasing the house has and that’s on us as we knew going into buying the house we needed to change them.

After a bunch of research, we went with @jeldwencanada new JWC 8500 series not only because it’s a Canadian company manufactured in Canada, and because it has such a great reputation, but also because this style of windows has over 25% less framing around the glass than a regular window. That means we could get larger windows for our home to let in more light without changing the structural hole of each window.

So in the end, we took this dark dreary 70s hallway and turned it in to something worth being in a home that has stood this many years.

Instagram is a funny thing, you are constantly see Instagram is a funny thing, you are constantly seeing inspiration from everywhere. And although so many of us are here to inspire, sometimes it can misconstrue our own thoughts and plans.

rob and I worked tirelessly on designing and building this kitchen after years of walking into a kitchen that had already been laid out and making do with the footprint. This time, we got to do exactly what we wanted, knowing how we live in our own space. And even though it took a year of hard work to finish it, I still love every inch of it. But I will be the first to admit comparison and doubt of what I should’ve done in some aspects always comes through.

That’s the time you need to remind yourself of all the hard work you put in to your home and making it feel comfortable for you and your family to live within. Trends will come and go, but if you stick to the things, you truly love that work for your family it will always win in the end.

Rugs have been one of those things that can totally change the room. You can take a space from traditional, to Boho, to English garden, just by changing out the rug. So of course it’s one of the first things I like to do when I plan out room design in our home.
I always have my inbox full of questions on which rugs are in each space and where to find them and the secret is pretty much every one is available @wayfaircanada. We love the Quick ship options that Wayfair has, as well as the fact that they have something affordable for everyone. Instant gratification, and in budget, win-win situation.

An Easter weekend filled with quiet moments with j An Easter weekend filled with quiet moments with just as five and crazy loud ones with all my family piled into my kitchen.

This is what I dreamed of when I was binge watching Martha Stewart with my mom as she planned all the details to make our holidays special. Thanks @mrscorkum for not only showing me the joy of Home making and entertaining, but now slowly passing the wand over to me and allow yourself to fully relax and enjoy the holidays without having to do the cleanup.

HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE.
At our last house, I ran outside with the clippers At our last house, I ran outside with the clippers between breakfast and school drop-off and grabbed a few branches that were just starting to bloom. Threw them in a jug by the door and somehow the whole entry just felt right.

We now have plans to plant all the flowering bushes at this house to do the same.

It doesn’t have to be fancy—just a little reminder that beauty’s already growing all around us.

Open shelves still have my heart! With the bulk o Open shelves still have my heart!

With the bulk of renovations in our mudroom being done, it’s time for those tiny little projects that make a big impact in the space. When we first laid out the cabinetry for this corner, we were thinking of adding an upper cabinet. But as we lived with the space, we knew what we truly needed was a place to hold my extra pots and vases. But why put those away in a cupboard? They need to be seen even when they’re not used. So this fun weekend project was born by using corbels from @homedepotcanada for the brackets and painting everything monochrome. I’m so happy with how it’s turned out. But, my insides are telling me the cabinets need to be yellow.

Fun fact, as the youngest of three girls, my parents colour-coded everything we owned to make sure there were no fights. I now do this with my kids as well. My colour was yellow. I grew up in a yellow bedroom, with yellow water bottles, and lunch kits, and clothes. And even though I still say that one of my favourite colours is yellow, my husband says I never use it. Do we need to do yellow in this space?

Our upstairs hall has taken many months, picking away at to finally have finished. And, now that we’ve shared sneak peaks in our stories, wallpaper is definitely top of mind for all of you.

We were going to wall panel, the entire upstairs hallway, but we ran out, so working under pressure. I turned a negative into a positive. We had just enough panelling to finish a traditional height of Wainscoting( just over 2 feet) and the rest could be an epic wallpaper. What makes it even more beautiful, is that this hall transitions into Poppy‘s room which is also wallpapered. By utilizing similar color, palettes and mimicking the floral wallpaper in the hall to the rug on Poppy’s floor, the two spaces marry perfectly.

Here’s the details of the wallpapers.
Hall: @sandbergwallpaper in Bloom teal
Poppy’s room: @anewalldecor Nuage customized to wrap all walls.
Desk: antique table

The count down is on! our home didn’t come wit The count down is on!

our home didn’t come with gardens like our last, but it did come with epic lilac bushes and in a month, they will be popping out and stunning.

My one goal when it comes to gardening is to grow enough, cut flowers to be able to bring a different variety in the house each month for all of the warmer season. I’m still working on it with this house, but I’ll get there.
One of our favourite things to do, especially duri One of our favourite things to do, especially during the winter and spring is staycation in our own backyard. Last weekend we took the whole family to spend a night at the Oak Island Inn, and Saturday night into Sunday at all of our favourite places in Mahone Bay, like the mug and anchor, famous town hand pies, four points market and even a hands-on Experience at Amos pewter, to see exactly how they make their beautiful pewter pieces and even make our own. if you’ve been wanting to visit Mahone Bay, This is the perfect time of year to do it.
What lighting and shelves can do to transform a sp What lighting and shelves can do to transform a space.

We are going on 14 months of picking away at our laundry mudroom. Like any renovation, or home ownership, a space is never really complete. But, with the holidays behind us and spring, giving us all of the energy, we are starting back Up working on this space after taking a few months off. The first thing we needed to do was get this little corner that you see when you first walk in to become its own moment. A new sconce from Canada’s leading luxury lighting company @montreallighting was the perfect investment. The Malvasia sconces with its real brass and unreal detail inspired the entire corner to be my little English Vase and potting storage. And for limited time, while we are all wanting to focus on shopping, Canadian, they are offering 20% off your purchase using code THEWILDDECOELIS20.

It’s these little projects that I can tackle in a day that truly bring me joy but really pack a punch.
You may remember me, teasing about this in my stor You may remember me, teasing about this in my stories back in March!
I tackled this project a few weeks ago when we started slowly incorporated Easter around the house and it is something that is so simple to do and very inexpensive.

I remember seeing this on my Pinterest feed last year and after finding these sweet, bunny napkins from HomeSense last year, I saved a few with my Easter things to tackle my own Delft eggs for this season. I think now that they’re made we are even going to glue some ribbon onto a few of them and decorate our Easter tree with them.

Comment ‘EGG’ for me to DM you the tutorial.
Our flower child’s dream bedroom 🌸🪻🌺🌷

you might’ve been here when we made this room out of the previous primary bedroom suite in this house. Poppy wanted to be surrounded by clouds with flowers at her feet. We opted for a ultra plush rug from @loloirugs and @riflepaperco. But 2 1/2 years later, we realized this girl needed something a little bit more flat weave, and with more pattern. I don’t know about you, but our little girl has a way with hiding her opsies in her room until it’s too late 😩. So with the new collection from #riflepapercoxloloi we thought this was the perfect opportunity to grab a stunning rug that still matches her personal style and space.

This is the Peacock forest cream rug from their new canopy collection and it was so hard to choose, which one as the collection is just so beautiful. Linking it in my stories. It’s currently 10% off to celebrate the launch.

Happy Spring! although it’s spring, we still ha Happy Spring!

although it’s spring, we still have a good two months of colder weather and the risk of snow over on the East Coast. So I’m just going to sit here and patiently wait for warm summer evenings having dinner outside with my sweet little family. but this year each evening will end in our garden and I cannot wait!

Happy first day of spring everyone !
Progress over perfection. One window is finally i Progress over perfection.

One window is finally in! We received our new 8500 series @jeldwencanada windows back in the fall, but Nova Scotia weather forced us to wait until now before we could get them installed. We got the first one in this morning with the help of @tirnanogbuilders, and I can’t believe I could love a window so much. Our home is an 1879 Victorian farmhouse so we wanted to keep that character while making slight changes to the window that will not only help with keeping in heat in the winter and out in the summer, but also modernize the space just slightly.

Now it’s time to re-trim the inside and re-shingle the outside, and then do it seven more times over the next few weeks. By the end, the entire original portion of the home will have beautiful new claystone coloured windows.
Window walls are all the rage and we definitely ha Window walls are all the rage and we definitely have to agree with them being amazing.

In 2022 when we first closed on the house, I went on a hunt for architectural salvage to inspire some of the renovations of the house. I stumbled upon these two side lights and my mind started picturing exactly where to use them. In 2023 we finally put them in and are so happy two years later with how they look. We still are on the hunt for the perfect antique window to go across the top to really finish off the look and we also still need the glass to be replaced in the missing Panes, but home take time, especially when you’re utilizing antique pieces and doing things on a budget.

would you add a window wall to your home?
When the kids were younger, I always thought havin When the kids were younger, I always thought having a clean kitchen before we went to bed was so overrated. At that point, all I cared about was a moment of relax before I headed to bed myself.

But now that they are older, and Rob and I have that extra time while they prep themselves her bed to tagteam cleaning the kitchen, it’s one of those joys I love to wake up to. Especially on a school morning.

do you always clean your kitchen before you go to bed?
This is your reminder that March is the perfect mo This is your reminder that March is the perfect month to start your tomatoes, peppers, and pumpkins inside.

We had totally forgotten until our neighbours reminded us by saying they had already planted theirs.

this year we’re going huge in the garden and I cannot wait to see what we can produce. It’s so great to get the kids involved as well.
