Sleeping Well With Owlet
Having a baby come early, whether it be planned or unexpected is always scary. When we found out about my Liver issues and the fact that Poppy wouldn't be allowed to come to term, all that flashed before us was NICU. Babies always have a risk of health issues after birth, but the more early that they come, the greater the risk. That meant our risk was pretty high.Poppy made her appearance and surprisingly had less issues than when Aubrey was born. With Aubrey, My labor was long and hard and I had two shots of Morphine before an anesthesiologist was available to give me an epidural. Unfortunately, we didn't know at the time that morphine affects the rate of breathing for newborns. Aubrey's breathing was fast and shallow and after 4 hours of many doctors coming in to give their opinion, they finally said he didn't need to go to NICU and could come up to postpartum with us.Poppy, on the other hand, came so fast and furious that she was very mucusy and choked often. Rob had quite a scare when she turned blue and wasn't breathing as he was drifting to sleep. But his fast acting Daddy skills saved the day and she was back to a healthy pink color before the nurses even arrived running.Because of those scares in our history, bringing home our baby was extra scary this time. What if she choked again while we were sleeping? what if Aubrey left something to close to her face as she slept? what if I rolled on her since she will only sleep curled up next to me? These are all thoughts that every parent faces bringing home their babies and again when they transfer them to their own rooms.Because of these thoughts, we got an Owlet Care Monitor. It is a little sock like monitor that attaches to a baby's foot while they sleep. Close by, is the base station which you keep by your bed that is designed to alert you along with the App on your phone, if the baby stops breathing. That way, you can feel safe knowing you can catch that much needed sleep while the owlet is a second set of eyes on your little one.The App will show you at any time what your baby's Oxygen and heart rate is. I am not going to lie that I probably use this more than I should just to make sure she is good. And there are 4 sizes of socks available so that it grows with your baby. The idea that for the next 6 months, we can sleep soundly between feeds is a great feeling. So Parents and Parents to be, feel safe with Owlet keeping watch of your little ones. We sure do.
