Our Farmhouse Exterior Makeover: Behr Marquee Antique White

When we bought our 1879 Victorian farmhouse, we knew the exterior would eventually need a complete refresh. The original paint was flaking, fading, and leaving the home feeling more tired than charming. After a lot of prep work and decision-making, we’re thrilled to share the transformation with you. We chose Behr Marquee Exterior Enamel in Antique White, and the result is everything we hoped it would be—warm, welcoming, and true to the character of the home.

Why We Chose Antique White

White farmhouses are timeless, but not all whites are created equal. We wanted something soft, creamy, and classic—bright enough to feel fresh but not so stark that it clashed with the age of the house. Antique White struck the perfect balance. It pairs beautifully with the muted gray on our doors and accents, highlighting the home’s original architecture without overwhelming it.

The Painting Process

Before painting, we had to put in the elbow grease: scraping years of peeling paint, repairing damaged wood, and priming the siding to ensure good coverage and longevity. Once the surface was ready, Behr Marquee’s one-coat coverage made all the difference. It saved time while delivering a rich, consistent finish.

We used a combination of hand-painting and spraying for the siding and trim to achieve a professional result. The transformation was immediate—even before we finished, the house already felt brighter and more alive.

Details That Make a Difference

Doors: Painted in a Taupe that grounds the creamy Antique White.

Trim: Kept in the same Antique White for a seamless look.

Porch: Our porch has always been one of our favorite features, and the new color highlights its welcoming charm. From the wicker wreath to our teak bench, everything now feels tied together.

Landscaping: The softer backdrop lets our hydrangeas and potted plants pop, creating that cozy cottage feel we love.

Standing back now, it’s hard to believe this is the same tired exterior we started with. The house feels refreshed yet rooted in history, cozy but still elegant. Antique White gave us the timeless backdrop we dreamed of, and we couldn’t be happier with the result.

We’ve loved hearing all of your requests for still photos of the new color, so we’ve included plenty in this post. Let us know what you think—would you choose Antique White for your own home?
