Sleepless Nights = Sleep?
Aubrey’s room is upstairs next to the washer and dryer, which are running. As you pass those and come down the stairs, you enter the kitchen with the dishwasher, running. You then head through the kitchen into our living room, where you will find me. I watch TV, and mindlessly pinterest as I continually check the monitor. This soy eggnog, and the amount of background noises between Aubrey and I are what is keeping me sane. It is the second night of attempting the ‘Cry It Out’ method, to finally get our little man out of our bed ,and sleeping better through the night. We were told by our family doctor to wait until he is 5 months old. He is now emotionally stable enough to learn how to fall asleep on his own.
Last night, training began by doing the same bedtime routine we have done since he was 6 weeks old. I then, placed him in his crib and he began to scream and did not stop for 2 hours. Then, finally he fell asleep. After that, the night went better than expected. He woke up 3 times through the night. the first only to feed. The second he screamed for 35 minutes and 10minutes at the last. As I woke up for the day, hearing him talking, I look over and see that it is 8am. HE LASTED UNTIL 8AM! the longest he has ever lasted in his crib was 6am. I was amazed.
Tonight began the same with our routine beginning. He, instead of lasting through a book and his lullabies, fell asleep during feeding. I went with it and placed him into his crib. 20 minutes later, the screaming began. this time it lasted only 40 minutes. He then stopped, as though thinking “well thats not working” and looked around his room quietly until he finally fell asleep. Now its time to rest my mind, as the books all say that the second night is the worst. this is just one of those parts of parenthood that you need to go through. Like labour, it will all be worth it in the end. For Christmas, I would like Aubrey sleep trained and only waking once a night for feeding. Do you think Santa can bring me that? 😉
Always Dreaming,
Katie Rose xo
P.S. looking at these pictures from yesterday of his handsome face makes the screaming not that bad.
I’ve been following your posts about trying to get your little guy to sleep. Just wanted to comment as I disagree when you say it’s something all parents must go through. Not true. It’s something some parents choose to and it’s simply not for everyone, nor for every child. We all choose what we believe is best!

Our little bundle of joy is also 5 months old! We are on night 6 of sleep training!! Night 3 was our worst for me. He went down with no crying but was crying on and off from 1230am-330am. Never lasted longer than 10-12 minutes of crying, but I was so tired! He’d sleep 15 minutes then cry. Sleep 10 minutes then cry. Our little one caught on quick to putting himself down! Night 3-6 so far he has not cried once. He may talk happily or grunt while moving around to get comfortable. I always lay him down awake. Night 4 he slept 11.5 hours! No feed. Night 4 he woke up one time for about 10 minutes. Last night he whined for about 20 minutes on and off. The intensity has definitely changed. He really doesn’t scream cry anymore. This has been the best thing we ever did. He is so much happier and well rested! I wanted him so bad to love his crib and know sleeps is a great and happy thing! Good luck! Keep up the great work mom!!! I saw your post of Instagram!! Great to see other parents going through similar things!
