The big pregnancy dilemma all women face...what in the world do I wear?

Now, I am lucky that I have two sisters who have great style and are the same size as me. This in turn leaves me with lots of options of maternity styles that we have all picked up over the past 4 pregnancies. I am well off on the 5th pregnancy. But, styles that are in obviously change and it is always nice to pick yourself up something new. Nova Scotia is not one for the greatest shopping and like many places, maternity clothes are usually ill fitting and over priced for the amount of time your in them. That's why I have picked up some tricks and tips on what to splurge on and what to save on. So here is your cheat sheet:

Pants: Unfortunately, this is one thing you do need to invest in. But they don't need to be expensive. With Aubrey, I went out and bought Citizens and Rock and Republics, but they were both uncomfortable and not worth the money in my eyes. Instead, head to the Gap. Their jeans are so soft, wear great and last. But as always, size down because they will stretch. If your on an even tighter budget, head to your nearest H&M. Their maternity section ROCKS and with prices like $15-$40 your bound to find a great pair in your price range. But again, size down.

Shirts: This is where you can thank fashion trends for working in your favor. Maternity shirts have that tacky ruching and don't look that great after baby has arrived. But, over sized shirts are stylish and easy to find everywhere. I usually gravitate to tunic style shirts in light airy cotton and an over sized style. Another way of going is with comfortable cotton stretch shirts like the one I'm wearing above. But, just remember to look for ones that have a longer body and size up to fit over the bump. Trying shirts on before you purchase will give you a better idea of if they are long enough to grow with you.

Jackets: This is where I draw the line on investing too much. With seasons only lasting 3 months and a pregnancy lasting 9 months, your pregnancy may end up going through 3. Invest only when you need to. Take my pregnancy for instance, the majority of it is spent in the winter months, but, my growing bump fit into my regular jacket for the first bit. I invested in a fun loose fitting winter coat from Zara during their boxing day sale and it works great for now and after baby. With spring time approaching and summer soon here, my solution is to layer. Using mixes of fabrics with jackets you may already own, you will stay warm even if they don't cover your bump. That's what scarves are for.

Shoes: Comfort Comfort Comfort! At one point in your pregnancy or another, your entire body will ache. Why add to that pain with uncomfortable shoes? Reach for some great flats you already have in your closet, or a new sneaker that will keep you inspired to stay moving both before and after baby has arrived. I oped for a killer boot for those in between seasons from Union Jack Boots. I bought a 1/2 a size up to fit an insole and make them that much more livable. You will thank me for this advice on week 34 when your hips keep you up at night.

Swimwear: ROCK THE DAMN BUMP IN A BIKINI. But, do invest in a great one piece with tummy control for after.

So there you have it, my spurge and save lists for all you ladies who may feel confused about it all. Trust me when I say, I still wake up each morning trying on my entire closet until I find that outfit that makes me feel good that day. Good luck shopping.
