A Princess Little Girls Room
This past spring, after trying for months to get the kids to sleep and stay asleep, we realized that no matter what combination we tried, sharing a room was not going to equal a good nights rest for anyone. We were sick of playing Tetris with each kids things switching from room to room and decided to turn our family room into the primary bedroom, leaving the proper three bedroom space upstairs in two separate rooms for each kid. We let Aubrey and poppy choose which rooms they wanted out of the three. Poppy, being afraid of lots of things decided she wanted the smaller room as it felt more safe and cosy for her.
we were totally happy with her choice but that meant we need to come up with a game plan switching a little boys and her three to a room fit for the princess that she is. Living with two brothers is hard enough as it is, we wanted the space to feel perfectly poppy with a good amout of pink and flowers. But, because she was having trouble sleeping we also wanted her to feel confident in the space which led to her making many of the design decisions. I would give her five option for things such as bedding, wallpaper, artwork etc. and she would narrow it down from there. Now that it is done I think she did an excellent job.
The thing that started it all was her Velvet curtains from Amazon. When we first transferred her into the space, we asked her what would keep her in her own bed at night and velvet pink curtains was her first answer. We found these ones and loved the weight and the quality of them.
When it came to the wallpaper, she chose this awesome floral from York wall coverings. I had printed off five options for her and taped them to the wall next to her new velvet curtains. From there, she was able to choose which she really liked for both her walls as well as to match the curtains.
Everything else fell into place and suited the space perfectly. We went with a beautiful Loloi rug which is super neutral agains the bold wall paper. And, once we it all in place, the last minute touch was birds on her ceiling. Previous wallpaper in the space had burns all over it so she really missed that aspect. I found these amazing decals off Etsy and they were exactly what we needed to finish the space.
