A Little Living Room Refresh
Well, its been a bit. I cant believe this is my first post in 2022. Boy do I have alot to update you on. From plans for our home, what we've been up to over the last 2 months, and also bringing back more life into the blog with recipes, supplements, and ofcourse parenting.
But, thats not what this is about. This is about some changes you will see in our living room.
It's funny, we've owned this house for almost 4 years and I feel like this room is constantly a struggle for us. Up until last spring when we moved our primary bedroom into the family room, this was a formal living room for our family. Mostly used by Rob and I for quiet time. It's now become our only living room in the house and with a home that's just over 1600 ft.² it gets used a lot.
But it's not just that it's the only living room that causes the issues, it's the fact that it is very narrow and long with not much wall space between the windows, doorways, and the window bench. We also have the issue where the fireplace isn't centred to the room which makes arranging furniture difficult. A few months ago we decided to switch out our six year old sectional which was getting very tired with the Farlov from Ikea and a Linen Bemz Slip Cover. This really created a custom luxe looking sofa which was perfect for the design aesthetic I wanted to go for in the space. But it also cut out a lot of seating for our family. I'm gonna be honest with you we don't usually all sit watching TV at the same time. With five of us in the house we have different ideas on what good TV looks like. Also, by the time Rob and I are done tidying up the house for the night it's bedtime for the kids.
In saying that, you might remember we had beautiful wood framed leather chairs in the space. They were so beautiful to look at and really great for a formal living room. They honestly are the perfect coffee or a book a chair. But, their pointy arms are what bruises are made for, and you definitely can't cuddle up and snuggle in them. So we decided to make the decision to sell them before any of our kids gained more bruises, and finally purchased our IKEA dream chair we have been wanting since Aubrey was born, The stocksund in green.
Now that we have the chair and the sofa in the room together we love the comfort and cosiness this room exudes. I was hoping to get two of these chairs for the space and I might still do that but currently I really like the feel and layout of just the one chair and sofa. I know it's not as balanced as we usually like in design but it suits the narrow space as well as the fact that our entryway is also in this room.
But that's not the only new thing in the space. Rob and I purchased this coffee table back in November and finally refinished it. I really love the way the light wood matches the refinish dresser that you can't see in this photo. Another thing that's new is the rug. This is one of Loloi x Amber Interiors collection and it's actually for a room in my parents house which is going to be a project in the future we cannot wait to take you on. It came early and is larger than a rug we usually put in the space so I needed to test it out before I gave it over to them. I'll never get smaller now.
So whats next for this room? This spring we will be refinishing the floors and it is going to bring me so much joy to see this awful red stain taken away from these original 1917 Beechwood floors. We are also going to switch out the cellular blinds for something more natural textured, probably going with matching our cream linen shades in the kitchen. And finally, and we are game planning and pricing out what it's going to look like to update our fireplace in the space without ruining the original mantle to the home. I can't wait to take you guys along for all of it.
And if you're new to the space, I share everything over on our Instagram and TikTok so head there if you want to see more of the day today.
