A New Chapter Has Begun

On Monday February 18th, at 11:45am, My life was changed and I entered a new chapter.

Amelia Helen at a few hours old
Amelia When she got home from the hospital

I became an Aunt for the very first time to a gorgeous 6 pound, 12 oz, 18 inch long baby girl named Amelia Helen. Who knew you could love something so much that you have only seen in pictures. My eldest sister Hollie had a natural  16 hour labor in a scary looking hospital (think American Horror Story: Asylum) in Curacao with her Husband, my mom and my other sister Shannon by her side. Soon it will be my turn to hold this amazing little human as I trek down to the Caribbean to see her for 2 weeks (and have my own babymoon). As a soon to be mom, this new chapter has made me so proud of my sister. She has been my idol and confidant throughout every step of the journey. She is the one to research everything which means she is great for asking questions to in between doctors visits. I value her opinion and feel so lucky to be going through this together for the first time. One thing we have both been sticking to as much as the fatigue and nausea will let us are Glowing Green Smoothies. Its a Recipe from Kimberly Snyder, writer of 'The Beauty Detox' and is a celebrity favorite. The great things about this smoothie is that it makes you full for a long period with tons of veggies and fruit. Each time I make mine, I switch up the ingredients with whatever I have in the fridge but always have the same base.

Getting prepared

Ingredients for tonight's version:

  • A bunch of Kale chopped
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 green apple
  • 1 pear
  • half a cucumber
  • chunk of ginger root
  • juice of 1 lemon
  • strawberries
  • a banana
Start with the things that need more blending. I always start with the Kale and water. Then, 1 ingredient at a time starting with the hardest, like the apple for example, start adding the ingredients to the blender. You'll end up with an amazing smoothie full of vitamins and fiber. A blender full can usually last 2 servings so I always save mine for breakfast the next day. For more great recipes from Kimberly Snyder visit http://kimberlysnyder.net/blog/recipes4/
                                              Enjoy,
