As summer gets into full swing, I find as a mom we always start worrying about protecting our kids with the best sun suits, hats, sunscreen, etc. By the time they are out into the sun and heat, they are as protected from everything as they can get.As moms, we are lucky enough if we have the proper attire for the temperature, let alone being protected from the UV rays ourselves. The one thing we can easily grab with a baby on our hip and a toddler running out the door, is a great pair of sunnies. Not only do they help with covering those tired mom eyes, but they make sure you keep your sight so that you don’t miss an ounce of your children’s lives.

There is so much talk right now about sunscreen, the dangers, and the need. We seem to have forgotten about our eye health and that even with a hat, they are still in danger.Growing up next to the beach we live by now, I remember becoming friends with the skim boarders at the beach. But, not only do I remember them for the fun adventures and the awesome talent that they had, I also remember their eyes so vividly. You see, the whites of their eyes were bright red. It was not because of drugs, or being tired. The redness was from their actual whites being sunburnt from the sun reflection off the ocean.Sunburns aren’t the only risk your eyes are under. UV rays can also cause certain cataracts, growths on your eyes, as well as macular degeneration. All of these could cause blindness. Is that really a risk we should take?
