Why Mother’s Day Has Become So Special To Me
Mother’s day has always been a celebration in our family. We would take my mom out for brunch each year and smother her with love. We made sure she knew that she was so appreciated and that we never took her for granted.When I became a mom, Mother’s Day happened when I was in my last month of pregnancy. We took my mom for the usual Brunch and I remember that she surprised me with a card. Inside, it said happy Mother’s day to the Mom-to-be. The problem was, although I was carrying and nurturing this baby boy inside of me, I didn’t yet feel like I was a mother because I hadn’t actually gone through the hard times us mom have to endure yet. It took a good few years for me to finally feel like I was worth celebrating.
Last year, that finally happened. Aubrey was almost four, Poppy almost one, and I finally felt like a mother worth celebrating. I don’t know why it took that long, but I do know why it changed. Aubrey knew then what the day was all about. He celebrated it with us and smothered me with the love that I had always done to my mom. When he said, “Happy Mother’s Day” that year, it felt more real than the four years before it.This year, I teamed up with Pampers to celebrate All of you mothers, whether this is your first Mother’s Day or your 20th, whether you feel that love, or like me, it's taking you a bit longer. Just know, that whatever stage you are at on your motherhood journey, you are totally worth celebrating.
