Our Outdoor Kitchen

Our backyard was one of those secret garden fall inlove instantly spaces in our home. But, with living on a hill, we have found out that the drainage for runnoff in rain storms and during winters melting snow was AWFUL. So, we started planning out how to add proper drainage to the space. In order to do so, we decided to just bite the bullet and will be fulling landscaping our back yard with leveling it out, adding in french drains, and creating a pea stone gravel patio this coming spring.

Because its me we are talking about, I wanted to start making steps to get things in place that we could this summer so that we could really feel out the placement and design before bringing on a landscape company to put it in place. After a spring and early summer of not using our firepit area, we decieded we would put it to better use NOW by turning it into an outdoor kitchen.

We are all year round BBQers. Rob will be out there in the pouring rain and snow just to have delicious steak or chicken thighs seasoned and cooked to perfection. On top of that, I am a big gardener, needing an area to repot plants and arrange bouquets from the flowers we grow in the kitchen. All of this needs water, and counter space fit for the elements. We saw Hauser, a Canadian family run company based in Ontario had a stunning modular outdoor kitchen with a sink you could hook your ourdoor hose to and natural stone countertops and we knew that they would be perfect for our needs for years to come.

Once the counters arrived, we moved our sofa down to the grass (essentially where it will sit when the pea stone patio is there) and our BBQ and counters to the pea stone fire pit area. We started cooking right away and continued to do so all summer. It was fantastic. From bouquets to family dinners this outdoor kitchen has seen it all over the past few months and we are excited to continue using it for years and seasons ahead.
