A New Tradition Passes Down (Warning Big Post)
In 1988 My family moved to Nova Scotia from BC for many reasons, the main one being not having to take a boat to the mainland for everything. I was only 9 months old with 2 older sisters, so my mother spent a lot of time and energy trying to entertain us. One place that became a main part of our childhood was New Ross Farm Museum. It is one of Nova Scotia's Heritage Museums located only 15 mins from my parent's home. Twice a year we would venture over. The first would being during planting season, where my sisters an I would get to see and interact with all the new baby animals as well as each plant a pumpkin. In the Fall, before Thanksgiving, Mom and Dad would cart us all back to the Museum with our numbers memorized, where we would take the horse and buggy back down to the garden to discover what our seed ended up like. It was always so much fun. After picking up the pumpkins, we would stay to have them judged in wonderment, Would mine win the ugliest, smallest, or most green? If we were Lucky, we would be brought back a third time for Horse drawn Sleigh rides in the snow, Hot chocolate, and old fashioned tree decorating.I was 18 months when the tradition began and now, being close to turning 1, Aubrey got to go and experience it too. He loved everything from playing in the dirt, to seeing the real versions of all of his cartoon animals. The way he looked touched my heart. With Rob and My mom by our side, we walked through all those memories of my childhood, and passed them down to him. As the years go by, I'm excited to see the love for this magical place grow in his heart the way it had in mine.Katie Rose xo
