Our FirmFit Flooring Review

The Wild Decoelis | Our Firmfit Flooring Review | warm LVL wide plank flooring

If you have been following us for a bit, you would have seen us working over the few years on my parents home. They built the home in 1991 and hadnt done any upgrades since so it was TIME. One space we needed to tackle was their "guest room" which is a room attached to the upstairs of the house but above and the same size of their 2 car garage. It was a space the toys were stored in and the grandkids gravitated to it , BUT IT NEEDED LOVE.

We spent most of the last 2 years cleaning the space out, ripping up the yucky carpet and painting. It needed floor. It was a very large space so we wanted a budget friendly option that also could stand up to the kids and cats.

Firmfit Flooring hit all those key things for the space. The Flooring was available in Ultra Wide plank with what look like rough sawn marks throughout. My father is a fourth generation logger and he really appreciated that the sequin pattern we went with really felt like something he could have cut and sourced on his own.

Another huge point was that from that flooring once installed properly is completely waterproof. With my mom and dad having a cat that sometimes has accidents around the house, they didn't want to have the upkeep that they had been spending the last 30 odd years with when it came to carpet being able to just wash the flooring without worrying it's ruining anything underneath was a game changer for them. It also allows us to let the kids be up there chaperoned free and if they end up spilling their apple juice on the floor it's a quick fix.

The installation was seamless and because we were laying it on to plywood, it didn't need to have any underlayment. That made the click in portion so simple and we were able to cut the floor with a X-Acto knife and a straight edge. The room was around 600 ft.² so by the time we were done with it we really felt like we had a good sense of how to work with this flooring in the future.

So this now brings us to our new home. As you know, when we first purchase this house it had old green carpet throughout the entire upstairs level. With all of our children having asthma, especially Emmitt with his severe asthma, carpet is an absolute no no in our home. We spent the first few weeks of owning a home, not moving in so that we could get out all of that yucky carpet before the kids spent the night in the home.

When it came time to looking for flooring, we really needed to find a flooring that was low profile as it needed to come into the stairwell which was already flushed with the subfloor. That meant that hardwood was completely out of the running and the engineered hardwood that we looked at also was just that much too thick. We decided to return to that same luxury vinyl we used at my parents house as we knew how to install it, we knew it held up to everything, and it gave us a really beautiful look that a farmhouse deserved.

Another great benefit to it was that we could order it from castle building which is located here in our little village under the name Richmond flooring. They delivered it straight to our house and we got to work laying it.

When I say that this floor is easy to install, I mean it. I have had absolutely no experience laying flooring prior to my parents house, but was able to not only help Rob and my father lay the flooring in that space, but did almost 80% of the upstairs of Star acre completely on my own, with Rob coming in on the harder to cut out areas and when we were running out of time before we had visitors come stay with us.

It's been three weeks with our upstairs having flooring completed and I still love it. The cork back to the firm that flooring really makes it easy on your joints, quiet to step onto and feel nice when you walk over it. It is a floating floor so you do have a bit more give with every step then he would a hardwood but for in a bedroom space, that's actually something we really like about it.

We also are really happy that if anything happens with accidents and the kids we don't have to worry about the flooring. Kids get sick, kids wet themselves, kids drop stuff all the time, but when I say this flooring is indestructable I mean, you shoot a nail gun at it and it curls the nail not the floor(trust, we did it)

We went with the XXL premium plank in sequin but head to the link here to look at all the different flooring options they have to offer. This also includes tile like floors for bathrooms and many other wood floor looking luxury vinyl. They have just launched an Intown collection and this one is my Favorite.

We still have alot to do in the upstairs, but at least we are one step closer.
