I Went Red And I Love It
I am an Official Red Head......and I LOVE IT!To be totally honest with you, I have been wanting to make this jump for years now but always chickened out. My hair is seriously like my security blanket and with so many bad experiences in my past, and shade of red that I DID NOT want to go, I felt it was safer to just remain boring old brown. Then I cut the bangs last September and realized that change can be fun and I need to open up more to it. So, I opened up the conversation on my instastories, wanting everyone's recommendations on the best person to get me the red I wanted. I had an overwhelming amount of people DM me, but one name that stood out was the ladies at the Bowtique Salon. My husband knew the owner Meg Ryan and said that her hands are who he would trust with my hair. I booked the appointment and only told a handful of people what I was going to do. I was so surprised at how simple the process was to go from Brunette to Red. I had heard that it would be a huge process, bleaching the color from my hair, and then adding red over the bleached hair. Because of the intense process, my hair would also feel dry. This is true if you have color treated hair and the whole process will cost you around $300. Luckily for me, I hadn't touched my hair in over 3 years. This means it was all 'virgin hair' with no dye in it. That allows the process to be much easier. Without dye on the hair, the hair can grab the color better and we could skip the bleaching process. Doing it this way only costs $165+tax. When budgeting for this, you also need to factor in the upkeep. Roots will need to be dyed every 5 to 6 weeks and cost around $140 if you also are getting a cut.As a girl who literally gets nothing else done for myself, the upkeep of the color is super reasonable and I am excited to roll with it and adapt it as it grows on me. I am so excited to live this color out for as long as I can. Once the sun sticks around and my freckles start to pop, I feel like I will truly take the role as a redhead. What do you all think?
